The capital city of the Vijayanagara Empire, often referred to as Pampakshetra, was Hampi. It was established in 1336 CE by Sri Vidyaranya Mahamui, appointed Harihara I and Bukka Raya I of the Sangama Dynasty as kings. Hampi is located in central Karnataka, on the banks of the Tungabhadra River. It was the heart of the Vijayanagara Empire, known for its architectural grandeur and prosperity.
